Disease
A diet that is low in saturated and trans fats may reduce your risk
of heart disease. Trans fats are found naturally in some animal-based
foods, but are also formed... when liquid oils are made into semi-solid
fats like shortening and hard margarine. Polyunsaturated fats, made
up of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids are essential to good
health. The omega-6 essential fatty acids are highest in vegetable oils
such as corn, sunflower, and soybean oils; and the omega-3 in some vegetable
oils such as canola and soybean oils as well as in fish oils. Evidence
shows that soy protein is effective in lowering blood cholesterol levels,
studies suggest that it is the isoflavones that play an important role
in this. isoflavones are a group of plant chemicals called phytoestrogens
found in soy and tofu products.
High Blood Pressure
A healthy, diet, consisting of foods like tofu and soymilk that are
high in potassium and low in sodium.
Menopause
Studies have shown that consumption of soy foods may decrease the frequency
and severity of hot flashes.
Aging
Soy provides a high-quality, complete source of protein. This has been
proven to aid in physical strength, performance as well as reduce fatigue
and aid the recovery process.
Osteoporosis
Our cells, nerves, heart, and muscles all rely on calcium to function
properly. Bones require calcium to maintain their strength. During childhood
calcium is very important... to support a growing body. As we age, calcium
plays a role in preventing osteoporosis. We get calcium directly from
the food we eat and if we are not getting enough the body takes it from
our bones leaving them less dense and fragile. Choosing a Sunrise firm
or extra firm tofu, will ensure you are getting a higher calcium content
in your meal.
Diabetes
Diabetes is a condition where there is too much sugar (glucose) in the
blood. It results when people either don't produce enough insulin or
have high levels of insulin in their blood... which isn't working properly.
Insulin is the hormone that regulates blood sugar. Tofu increases your
fiber intake which helps regulate the blood sugar levels. The rising
number of people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is related to increase
in obesity. Healthy eating, watching your weight and regular activity
are important to help manage diabetes. |
